As a non-english native speaker I always wonder about the meaning of the expression "feeling blue". Is it because blue is associated to sadness? I think that cannot be the explanation, because blue, in all of its shades, is such a beautiful color and has no relation -at least for me- with anything but wealth, luxury, relax...

Ahh... I am having so much fun making fabric poppies that I could not resist the impulse of mixing colors...!

So that is what I did in my first attempt: One of my favorite combinations, red-orange-fuchsia, in this retro style mixed with the elegancy of clear glass beads in the center :)

I have found this amazingly easy project to help you decorate your home with style, and with super cheap materials!

What do you think this vase is? Just a simple glass votive candle holder and a balloon, the color of your choice. Let´s see how you get it...

First cut off the top of the balloon. It is important to leave the narrow part of it so it can be used later as the neck of the vase.

When Cat´s Away... the Mice will eat Vegetables!

Why is it hard for men in general to fully enjoy a tasteful pile of vegetables without a piece of meat?

Well, this weekend my little "mice" and I were alone at home and I took the time and the patience for preparing:

1. A plate of boiled potato, carrot, pumpkin, broccoli and delicious lentils (with a touch of cheese, of course!)

2. A soja milanesa with melted cheese (yummmmmmy) and a fresh salad of tomato, carrot, red cabbage, green olives and roasted sesame & sunflower seeds :)

It was delicious and it was worth the time spent at the kitchen :)

How to easily add beauty to your designs

What do you need to do? A new header for your blog or shop? A new avatar or logo?

For years and years I had been using Photoshop without knowing they even existed. And they were out there... thousands of them, ready to be used in every occasion you need it...

What I am talking about is... Brushes! Easily found and easily installed, they are a rich resource for your design: a swirl, a grunge effect, a bunch of dots, a ray of light... and so on.

Choose the brush of your choice, download it to your computer, and open Photoshop. Then, Window menu and Brushes option. Once you have the Brushes palette open, go to the little menu on the right top and display the options there. You just need to click on "Load Brushes", find the *.abr file you have previously downloaded and... voilá! A new set of brushes is at your service. When you need to use them, you will find them at the bottom of your current list of brushes :)

I feel so proud that I finally made a felted roll with the yarn fibers I bought almost 2 years ago... Yay!

It´s all about adding layers of fiber of different colors, roll them, add some warm water and soap and roll it again till you have it tight.

Now I am using the slices for making some jewelry. I promise I am going to show you my creations soon :)

Me siento orgullosa de haber hecho finalmente mi rollo de fieltro con la fibra de lana que compré hace casi 2 años... Yupiii!

Se trata de ir superponiendo capas de fibra de diferentes colores, enrollarlas, agregarles agua tibia y jabón blanco disuelto y enrollar nuevamente, repitiendo el proceso hasta conseguir un rollo bien apretado.

Ahora uso las rodajas para armar algo de bijou. Prometo que mostraré pronto mis creaciones :)

DIY: A fresh idea for a little chair

Some time ago I have bought for my son a plain little chair and a table of his size for multiple uses :)

Of course it was my idea when I brought them home (almost a year ago) to paint and decorate them with a fun style. Well, it took me ages, but I finally found the time -as one of my New Year´s resolutions- and put brush, acrylics & varnish to work!

Por supuesto que mi idea era cuando las traje a casa (hace casi un año atrás) el pintarlas y decorarlas con un estilo divertido. Bueno, me tomó siglos pero finalmente encontré el tiempo -fue una de mis resoluciones de Año Nuevo- y puse pincel, acrílicos y barniz a trabajar!

I have made some new tags for jewelry and I used a free printable pillow box from Benign Objects to include my pieces and to give them a nice presentation. Cute, uh? :)

I will make a pillow box with my own design soon...

By the way, this necklace was made with my felt rolls, the ones I made a year ago. You can find the instructions to make them in a previous post.

Estuve armando unas nuevas etiquetas para bijou y usé el modelo de una cajita que se ofrece gratuitamente en Benign Objects para darle a todo una mejor presentación. Lindo, no?

Jewelry holders for little girls

I was preparing these cute sets for some friends of my son for their 5th birthday.

Wooden base and figurine, I combined them upon shape, then painted with acrylics and varnished.

I completed the gift with a necklace that I made myself in pink and lilac.

My new jewelry holder

I joined a bijouterie class last january and I have been happily creating since then, short and long necklaces, key holders, bag charms, bracelets, earings...
When my house was a mess of beads, I finally made this huge jewelry holder that not only contains all my creations (and previous necklaces) but displays them in a sort of a new decoration item for my bedroom.

I really like having this little piece of art where I can see it all the time :)

Mi nuevo "cuelga-bijou"

Me anoté en un curso de bijouterie en enero pasado y desde entonces he sido feliz creando collares, llaveros, accesorios para carteras, aros, pulseras...
Cuando mi casa se convirtió en un lío de mostacillas, finalmente armé este gran cuelga-bijou que no sólo organiza y contiene a todas mis creaciones (y previos collares), sino que es en sí mismo una pequeña obra de arte que decora mi dormitorio.

Realmente me gusta tenerlo allí donde puedo verlo siempre :)

I´m a robot, clink-clank...

Last November 22th, my little son Alec played the role of a robot in a show from his theatre´s group. It was a delight watching him moving, talking, dancing on stage... I have been sewing and preparing his custom all the previous week. Sewing by hand, as I still don´t have my sewing machine, took ages but absolutely worth it!

El pasado 22 de noviembre, mi niñito Alec actuó de pequeño robot en el show de fin de año de su grupo de teatro. Fue verdaderamente una delicia verlo moverse, hablar y cantar en el escenario... Estuve cosiendo y preparando su disfraz toda la semana previa. El coser a mano lleva su tiempo, ya que aún no tengo mi máquina de coser, pero valió la pena, absolutamente!

My first time with yarn fiber... finally!

Well, after ages of staring with hunger all those beautiful fibers sold at Etsy -you know it is not cheap for us to buy things in dollars, due to the money change- I finally found a shop in Buenos Aires where I could buy my first two balls of yarn fiber...
They look great, don´t they?

Now, I started doing some little balls using the wet felt process. I will use them for some future jewelry project I have in mind :)

My little son wanted the traditional pumpkin-basket, the version that is easily found in every supermarket.
But I saw a chance to take again my friendly needle, a good piece of orange felt and start working with another great tutorial from Umecrafts...

Now it is finished, it has became in the official candy holder at home.

This is how it looks :-)

Canastita calabaza hecha en... pañolenci, por supuesto!

Mi niño quería esa canastita calabaza típica que vemos en cualquier supermercado. Para mí fue la excusa perfecta para agarrar hilo, aguja y un trozo de pañolenci naranja y comenzar a trabajar con otro de los geniales tutoriales de Umecrafts...

Ahora que está terminada, se ha convertido en la caramelera oficial de la casa.
Así es como se ve :-)

After some weeks in my dear Buenos Aires visiting family, I finally landed -mind and body- in Trelew.
So here I am, happy to show you some nice stuff I have made while I was away, for friends and relatives :)

Después de un par de semanas en Buenos Aires visitando familia, finalmente aterricé -en cuerpo y alma- en Trelew.
Así que aqui vuelvo a mostrarles algunas lindas cosas que hice mientras estuve afuera, para amigas y parientas :)
Como seguramente ya saben, me he enamorado del pañolenci; ahora no puedo parar de hacer cosas con él!

How to make a little felt roll

I have a photo now of those felt rolls I was talking about in the previous entry.

Here they are:

They are so easy to prepare...!

1. Cut some felt squares in one of your favorite color combinations.
2. Add some glue between the squares and in top too.
3. Roll them up
4. Once the roll is dry, cut them in slices in desired height.

They would make a perfect addition to any decorative project :)
I think I am going to prepare some curtain embellishment with them... I´ll show it here soon!

Art-in-pieces

I remember the first time I saw some squares forming an image, hanging in a wall.
I really liked that way of showing a draw or a picture, so I decided to create something of my own.
I started testing tons of photoshop brushes -swirls, folliage and flowers-, copied the composed image in 4 wooden squares (10 cm x 10 cm), painted them with acrylics, varnished each one and... voilá!

Here they are, the four of them hanging in my wall now :)

Arte-en-partes

Me acuerdo la primera vez que vi esta forma de mostrar arte: cuadrados, como un rompecabezas, formando entre todos una imagen.
Me gustó mucho la idea así que decidí armar uno para mi casa.
Probé cientos de combinaciones de pinceles en Photoshop -swirls, foliaje, flores- traspasé luego la imagen sobre cuatro cuadraditos de madera (10cm x 10cm), pinté la forma con acrílicos, luego una capa de barniz y... voilá!

Aquí están, los cuatro, embelleciendo un rincón de la casa :)
No son lindos?

Felt fabric, a great re-discovery

I know felt -pañolenci in spanish- since I remember. But it never really caught my attention.
One day, last november 2007, I found in a design magazine some beautiful little rolls made in felt and glued together making a chic wide belt.
I fell in love with the idea, ran to the nearest store and bought some pieces -brown, light-blue, pink- and I started making fervently some rolls, with hundreds of ideas in my head. Yes, I know I should post an image of those "famous" rolls... (soon, I promise!)

Then I thouhgt that felt would make a nice wall-art (background and shapes) and bought many more colors.

Days passed away, and I had my lovely collection of felt pieces filling with... dust :-(

Till I found it: AN INCREDIBLE source of tutorials of this sewing artist: umecrafts.etsy.com, and I bought one for making two delicious sandwiches... with felt!
I found sewing this material very relaxing and the result, rewarding :-)

Wow... someone got married!

This is my fiance, Gabriel, and I last september 6th in the wedding party of my brother-in-law, Pablo.

Fortunately, it was not a cold night so we could enjoy the evening till... 4 am! Nice place, good food and everyone got fun.

And this is Alec (our son), 3 years old, with his older cousin Franco, enjoying the time together :-)

Hummm... who´s turn is it now for getting married...? :-O

Here I am going to give you, my visitor, a glimpse of who I am and what I do.
So let´s start from the beginning:
My name is Marisa Kraiselburd, born in 1969 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I am a graphic designer and an obsessed crafty person: I need to create and do something with my hands: sew, knitt, paint... anything!
So one day I met Etsy (http://www.etsy.com). A wonderful place for handmade stuff.
With a mix of wood work from some friends and knitted items of mine, I finally opened a little shop in Etsy, last October 2007.
Now with many sales in my account, I added a new collection of items for home and kids :)
